On Wednesday November 1st 2023, the EFCC in Nigeria announced that it had arrested 69 suspected fraudsters from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

I would witness firsthand the agitation on X as well as the release of some of the students. The hash tag #FreeOAUStudents was used to bring attention to their plight.

Dubbed the OAU 69, the publication printed the names of the students. An action which is not only illegal but unfair to the innocent students.

With minutes of the announcement, the other media house in the nation carried the story on their website.

What is sad is that a Google search of the students names now brings up one of the publications.

The digital footprint created by the EFCC against the students will never be erased from the internet.

I have always said that Nigeria is a failed state. Reading stories like that break your heart and make you want to leave.

To be honest, don’t let patroitism keep you here. If you can leave, please leave.

I strongly believe that Nigeria is headed towards destruction. It is however too late for me to leave.

When it is all over, those of us who remain will rebuild our nation if we survive.

We are seeds and seeds only grow when they are put in the ground.
