Last month marked a year of the Tinubu administration in Nigeria. The scorecard is shown above.

It also marked 25 years of democracy in Nigeria. I remember the era of military rule when democracy was touted as the holy grail to economic prosperity.

I also remember the day when Abacha died. I was coming home from lessons with my elder brother when a childhood friend stopped us to tell us the news.

My first reaction was joy. Then he warned me that it could be a lie. Such was the fear of the military then.

Today marks 25 years of democracy and I would say that it has proven to be a farce in Nigeria.

The EndSARS protests ended in bloodshed and killed the soul of the country in the last adminstration.

As we celebrate 25 years of democracy, I write this blog post with no light at home.

Do I still believe in democracy? The answer is no.

The last elections in Nigeria were a farce marked by electoral violence and rigging. The current president was elected with 26.72% voter turnout.

This is the silent protest. People like me who have lost faith in democracy will continue to vote with their feet by leaving the country or stay at home on election day rather than pretend to vote.

The current administration does not inspire faith in the future. There was more hope during the military era.
